MiniVax
MiniVax is a vaccine company currently developing therapeutic and preventative vaccines for pneumocystis carinii. Pneumocystis carinii is a fungal pathogen closely associated with Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), a pulmonary disorder recognized as an Orphan Indication by FDA and historically known as the predominant killer of immuno-compromised individuals, especially AIDS patients.  The company’s vaccine platform is based on a novel engineered antigen discovered at the Louisiana Vaccine Center (an LSU Center of Excellence) termed “mini-kexin”. This platform will allow the company to address a range of fungal diseases for which current treatment is lacking. MiniVax was recently awarded a $600,000 advanced technologies STTR research and development grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
