Scout BioDiagnostics is developing and marketing advanced biomarker solutions for the clinical cardiology and nephrology markets. The technology is based on a proprietary ELISA platform developed at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans that correlates elevated levels of the BMP-4 protein in plasma or serum samples to increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This will ultimately minimize or avoid the use of iodinated contrast media, which is associated with an increased risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in CKD patients. The BMP-4 essay is intended to be the first of a portfolio of products marketed to hospitals and clinics as first-line diagnostics for determining disease risk in patients with co-morbidities.
