The New Orleans BioInnovation Center will be a 65,000-square-foot business incubator featuring wet-lab space and other lab/office space that can be leased by biotechnology companies with university relationships. This facility will assist in the commercialization of the biomedical research being performed in Louisiana.
Louisiana institutions earn hundreds of millions of research dollars in grant funding from public and private sources annually. It is clear that more economic impact can be derived from the funding of this facility. NOBIC will be one of three facilities in Louisiana built to capitalize upon the significant biotechnology-related research activity occurring now in Louisiana’s higher education institutions.
The New Orleans BioInnovation Center is meant to be a device for the development of a biotechnology industry in New Orleans. The facility will cater to a broad range of companies, from pre-startups and start-ups, to maturing and expanding businesses. Additionally, this facility will strive to attract and retain these companies through innovative programming, world-class facilities and networking opportunities with local, regional and national firms.
With programming and design currently under way, this event marks the beginning of construction and we expect to take occupancy in December 2009.
