About the New Orleans BioInnovation Center:

The New Orleans BioInnovation Center, part of a new wave of advancements in Louisiana, is at the forefront of today’s biotechnology surge. As a cornerstone of Louisiana’s commitment to nurturing biotechnology within the state, the Center is a technology business incubator that aims to stimulate bioscience entrepreneurship in the New Orleans area by providing facilities, programming and support services to life science technology startup companies.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

We are looking for motivated recent graduates with an interest in life science research commercialization. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and project management skills and have the ability to lead small project teams.  A strong autonomous work ethic, initiative, maturity, and the ability to work in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment are key. Candidates should possess strong writing, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Experience in technology entrepreneurship, due diligence, market analysis, scientific research or engineering, project management, or (patent) law is a plus; a basic scientific background is required. Fellows report to the New Orleans BioInnovation Center Director of Technology Commercialization and directly oversee teams of 1-4 student interns to coordinate research commercialization and technical assistance. Fellows will also interact routinely with local researchers, research development facilitators at local academic institutions (LSU Health Sciences Center, Tulane University, UNO, Xavier University), entrepreneurs, investors, and other members of the life science and biotech community. 

The NOBIC fellowship specifically targets young professionals with an interest in gaining experience in life science technology commercialization and in supporting biotechnology startup companies through programming and technical assistance. The core fellowship duties hinge on project management and creative problem solving. Specific job-duties may include:

  • Meeting with researchers and inventors to identify promising new technologies
  • Working independently and in teams to develop and facilitate programming and technical assistance to accelerate the growth of life science startup companies
  • Deliverables will be project-specific and will include tasks such as:
    • performing market and industry analyses,
    • analyzing prior-art and other IP-related information,
    • identifying grant funding opportunities and other sources of capital,
    • developing pitch presentations for accessing capital,
    • networking and nurturing strong ties to the life science community,
    • venture planning and business plan writing.

  • Job Requirements:

    • US citizen or be eligible to work within the US;
    • A graduate-level degree required – Business, health sciences, public health, engineering, or law preferred;
    • Basic understanding of bioscience research, (under)graduate background and/or research experience in chemistry , biology, engineering or related field preferred;
    • Strong analytical and project management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Logistics, Contact Information and Application Deadline:

    Most job duties will be performed at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, located at 1441 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Some travel will be required, since many of the day-to-day activities will take place in collaboration with scientists on the respective university campuses (mostly located in the New Orleans downtown medical district). Up to 3 fellows may be hired, on a needs-basis. Salary will be based upon level of experience.
